Actias maenas cocoon is brown and substantial, about 60 millimeters long and 30 millimeters wide.  Compare these dimensions with those of the moth; the tails of the male are about 150 mm long, its wings 115 mm wide.  All moths look enormous in comparison with the silk chamber they emerged from, but maenas, with its extraordinary long tails, overly dramatizes the discrepancy.
